ABOUT "Let's get this party started..." What is Chativersary? It is the celebration of the Protagonist chatroom's birthday, born exactly one year ago this day on November 16th 2000! We've laughed, cried, fought, teased, flopped, slapped, and so much more. How can we summarize a whole year's worth of friendships that were created, broken, rekindled, etc in a webpage? We can't, but we can bring some uncensored unadulterated highlights...and only for a fee of $3.99 per viewing (jk!)! How did this all begin? Read on my midgets..er...lovelies. The Protagonist board was a fun way to communicate and interact with all the people who knew and loved Lauryn's online journal, but after awhile, it felt constraining. There was a desire to get to know the members better, on a more personal level, rather than just through messages on the board. It was a bit awkward to contact people via aim/icq/msn/etc though for that seemed a bit too personal and random. Also, with the tension brewing in the Debates forum, many members felt another form of outlet would help to ease the high strung emotions. The idea of a Protagonist chatroom was born! At the insistence of Kig and Lele, Lauryn decided to give it a go. On November 16th, 2000, at approximately 3pm CST (central standard time), #protagonist was created. Let's take a brief look down memory lane... The first topic ever, set by Martin. Session Start: Thu Nov 16 16:37:38 2000 Lauryn, Martin, Gentle, Pei, Lele, Kig, Mark H. were mainly the only "regulars" in the initial phase of the chat. Yes, can you believe that? Only 7! Since it's creation, the channel has increased in size, most definately. A glimpse at the chat stats will reveal a minimum 30 regulars with over 5000 lines (at least!) each, and around hundreds of idlers or just brief visitors. The chat's highest peak, at one time, has been around 25, which, to some may not be exorbitant, but with the rate that everyone chats... it seems much higher. The chatroom, initially, was meant to only serve as a chatroom for board members only. We didn't anticipate people dropping in from the server, but alas, they did. Some were lame, some were beyond cool, and some were just Ash-like, jk. ;p Friends of friends were informed about this "great chatroom!" and soon enough, people were piling in from all over, rather than just the board. Just like any other community (or so I hope to think... we are normal.. right?? ... hrm. Don't answer. :P)we began to have it's own lingo, as shown below. THE PROTAGONIST GLOSSARY chjo - to clean excessively evan - baring one's genitals katherine - going scanner-frenzy! kig - sleeping a lot lauryn - collecting shirtless pictures Lele - flirting a lot Ling - eating massive amount of chocolate pei - sleeping very late/sleeping very little reverie - posting like a maniac russ - posting nonsense posts Examples : "I'm going to do a Chjo now." (I'm going to clean excessively now.) The chat originally started on the irc server, chat.hosting4u.net, but due to lack of a support staff and unreliable services, #protagonist moved to irc.damaged.net, where it continued to grow even bigger. On average, there are usually 10-15 people in channel, chatting away. We have the North Americans, the Asians, the Europeans...midgets, pokemons, fuffles, etc and despite the differing timezones, we all have a special bond... a Protagonite bond! (Yes, extremely corny!) For lack of anything better to say, I'll end this with : We rock. More than #italia. |
