IMPRESSIONS

What are your first impressions of the regular chatters? Or perhaps if you had been here since the very beginning, what are your first impressions on the newbies-turned-regulars? Time to find that one out... (to edit/add your impressions, email Lele or Pei).

Ash [@] [//]
Aspens: Don't know him too well. I think he wants my cock.

Brit: I think she's canadian. Good kid.

Chjo: Whoa. She's a hyper lil mexican. Someone give this chica some tequila.

E: I thought she was a bit stuck up and rude at first. She couldnt take a joke. In retrospect, I probly scared the shit out of her. Now I wuvvles my lil penguin queen.

Ian: I hate your name.

Kig: This kid is just too innocent for his own good. Poor lil thai boi.

Lauryn: Really wonderful person. Tolerant, mature and intelligent. I sensed some sort of pain that made her grow up quickly.

Lele: First protagger I met. Immediately taken with her intelligence, beauty, and ability to communicate. Sweetheart with a sick sense of humour.

Mijaan: He wants my cock.

Onyx: At first meeting, I wanted this fucker dead. I damn near akilled him. He argues with anyone over anything. Then he grew on me, like a fungus.

Pandora: I don't remember the first time I talked to her.

Pei: First impressions of pei were of a shy, intelligent little malaysian girl. Now she is my dirty malaysian slut!! muwhahahaha.

Reverie: I don't remember the first time I talked to her.

Shine: This chick is hot. Out of my league.

Thom: A bit quiet and secretive. He wanted to learn ip routing but never actually took the time to.

TN: Nice guy. Older than me so I dont feel so bad anymore.

TuxMP: Hyper lil guy. Pretty smart though. I eventually gave him ftp access and a shell on fsck.

aspens [@] [//]
Lele: the perpetual chatter. she chats non-stops. quite pretty looking from her cam pictures. :P

lauryn: i first thought she was the chat room bot because she was always there but not chatting.

BrutalCheese: i found gentle's nick quite strange. i've never heard of cheese being brutal or even having emotions.

Thom: the php geek. i tried to use his php journal but i got stuck configuring mySQL.

pei: the non-edible pie of the chat room. she always gets a huge welcome whenever she arrives.

reverie: i saw the reCeBLing neoprints and i mistook her for cessy! i thought she was in her late teens or early twenties! rude shock for her i guess. :P quite hyper active i personally feel.

blissy: the fashion goddess in my opinion. i remembered her saying my dressing was like a typical junior college male. foolproof khaki pants and a t-shirt she said.

cessy: gorgeous lady. chatted with her once only.

Ash: this guy loves to bathe and i mistook him for a female no thanks to the chatters.

tnb: seems like the chatters have a sense of achievement trying to mislead me again. this time Lele said he was a gorgeous blonde or something to that effect. so i thought he was a female. not again.

Chjoey: reverie calls her the siao woman! i think so too hehe.

Ling: i got to know her site before i know her. totally cool site and person. nice to chat with.

Brit [@] [//]
#protagonist: when i first came to the chat, i was welcomed by lele and lauryn. they then talked about silverchair. i tried to join in, but i knew bullshit about silverchair. so i left, and was too freaked to come back until late april. i was glad i did, because some asshole named ian told me about all the people who hung out there. i've been coming ever since. nd i remember being really intimidated by lele.

Chjoey[@] [//]
Lele/Pei/Gentle: i remember.. the first time i came into the chat room.. AMBROSIANA .. no LELE .. but AMBROSIANA [a nick LELE never uses >:O anymore ] greeted me with super-duper happiness.. and i was like 'wow, she's really NICE :D :D' .. cos i was used to going into aoHELL chat rooms and being shunned right away for stupid shit.. so anywho.. i think she was just being NICE because she wanted me to sign Lauryn's {?} birthday {?} or something.. guestbook.. anywho it was a surprise.. .. i think.. lol anywho.. yeah.. so i guess she was just being a nice whore so i could DO SOMETHING FOR HER!! TYPICAL LELE!! MINIPULATIVE BITCH! .. lol j/k .. anywho.. she and PIEEEEEEEE struck me as REALLY friendly.. and stuffs.. but then like.. after a while.. i thought they hated me :P .. and i was like ' :'( LELE HATES ME!' .. for real [not jokingly] .. and uhm........ yeah.. but then.. i figured out.. that they didn't hate me .. :P .. at least i don't think they do :O .. lol .. so there you go.. i can't really remember my impressions of anyone else.. except being pissed off at Gentle for a short period of time [he banned me twice] .. lol .. things were going sweeelllllllllll :P ... yeah.. so i could keep going .. but then.. it wouldn't a first impression :P .. so .. I STOP NOW! <3 The Chjoey.

Daynah [@] [//]
i hop into the chatroom and everyone is calling each other b*tch and raping each other. /me quiet and lurk. protagonists are scaring me haha. i guess it was just the guys that were scaring me heheh cuz they were raping each other and stuff.. but then i met pei and reverie :-) and aspens girly and u (Lele) sway both ways hahah.

E [@] [//]
Ash: I came in after a long hiatus, and when Ash screwed with my modes and IP, I thought he just another rude fucker. Turns out, he's just a fucker. And a damn good one at that.

Kig : When I first met Kiggy, he was a sweet little boy from Thailand. He was so cute because we'd just exchange AIM smilies and not say anything. But who knew I was more innocent than he was? It must be all those Christina Aguilara pictures/posters he has. No, wait, I mean, Britney Spears. He still owes me some Thai orange juice, too. >:O

Evan [@] [//]
#protagonist: I thought everyone in here was so friendly... well. Except for Gentle. But then I realised that he was pretty cool and I've been coming here ever since. I can't go a day without at least saying "hey" in here. I just wish we all lived close by then we could all meet somewhere and yeah. This is one hell of a kick-ass place. It's the shit! I thought that lele was a cool name, so I just started hitting on her right away. AND SHE DID NOT INSTIGATE IT!!! Like she usually does. Lauryn is sweet, and always has, and always will be. unless some unforseen thing happens like one of her cats dies, then she could quite possibly turn into some evil cat-worshiping person. ;). TN is weird, but aren't we all? Yeah. Uhh... Katherine is hot, not to mention my speshul shecsay ladee Sair. Who is right now too busy watching temptation island to talk to me on the phone right now. Gentle is a masturbating freak who loves me. Pie is yummy and reverevereverie is cool shit. Oh yeah. TN is also Christ. ;)

Ian [@] [//]
#protagonist: When I first came to the chat, I thought everyone was pretty crazy. Cool, but crazy. Of course, I know now that my first thoughts were correct :)

Jess [@] [//]
Lele: i though lele was very hyper

Evan: evan is one of those "thinking of sex every 5 seconds type"

Jon/Timurake [@] [//]
#protagonist: I first stopped in the chat around the time when I first joined The-Protagonist.net back in June. Everyone seemed really nice and friendly on the board so I thought I would give it a try. When I went in i had alot of fun (and still do) with all the jokes, sarcasm, cyber sex (joke!) and kindness. It kept me coming back. Everyone talked to each other as if they had known them there whole life, and that was pretty neat-o in my opinion. At first I thought I was kind of weird because I am not really the chatroom type, but it grew so addictive that i didnt even bother to study for my chemestry regents exam and failed it. Haha, but in a way I really liked it and thats why I'm still going back for many laughs.

Josh/Shinji-JB [@] [//]
#protagonist: I think when I joined the chat it was just getting started. There certainly weren't as many people as there is now! I liked, and still like, the chat 'cause despite my non-social-ness people still bothered to remember my name. Plus, there is always some weird topic being discussed.

Pei: seems to be the innocent, sweet little girl that has been corrupted by us all :)

Lauryn: seems to be the girl that is always very busy, but seems to always have time to say 'hi'

Lele: the one that is always around, joking and laughing with other people

Ian: The 'english lad' who has a song lyric for every moment of life

Kalmeo [@] [//]
#protagonist: i remember late night conversations about absolutely anything that came across our minds. i remember the start of midget porn obsessions spreading, kig learning english ( >:O !!!! lol!!! britney!!!), staying up late enough to talk to people from 1/2 way across the globe, discussing world issues, school, personal life/problems, staying up and pretty much online to celebrate a dozen or so happy new years...i also remember my mum getting mad at me for staying up too late chatting here

Katherine [@] [//]
#protagonist: it was quiet a lot of the time at first but it was fun because you got to communicate one on one with people instead of the boards or emailing or messaging ..convienant..the people always made me laugh... ADDICTING!

Lauryn [@] [//]
#protagonist: I didn't think that the chat would be a huge success. I thought people would be too busy with school or work, or that coordinating a chat would be a hassle because of the time difference. Thanks to my great admins, Lele and Pei who made this such a fun place. What would I have done without them? Lele's always there to greet people, and she's so lively and has a great sense of humor. Pei is so cheery and witty and likewise there to chat with members in our time zone whenever I am not around. When the chat was new, it was mostly site visitors looking for me and that was kinda embarrassing because I wanted people to go in there to chat and not just talk to me. So I would not chat in purpose just so they would talk to everyone in the channel. I think it became a habit so now it seems I am always away.

So, I'm sorry if it seems that I'm a snob (and always away) because I don't mind you, but I do a lot of things online and I don't really have time to chat during schooldays, what with school and the rest of the problems that come with teenage life. How do you guys manage? But I'm really happy that everybody is enjoying themselves.. This chat room is for everyone. I hope it stays that way for a long time.

Here are my impressions for the 7 regulars at the start of the chat and who are still here today:

Lele: She's so like me in many ways like her sense of humor and that first impression was proven when we first got to know each other in the chat room. It's for that reason that I completely trust Lele in every decision she makes for the channel . How could she get intimidated with little old me?

Pei: I was amazed that Pei and I hit it off at the start. It seemed like we had known each other forever. It touched me that she had read my journal for years and cos of that, I think she understands me somehow. Like Lele, I trust Pei because she's so patient and level-headed compared to me. And that makes her so endearing to the chatters.

Kig: He bugged me constantly to have this chat. In fact , he seemed like a stalker cos he kept icqing me and I'd put him to ignore. Then he emailed me and said he just wants to be my friend. I get easily turned off by stalkers but somehow his persistence paid off. He signed up at the boards and clamored for a chat. I was like "ick, a chat? would it even be successful?" Then Lele posted and said she wanted it too . So I have to thank Kig for giving me the idea for a chat room.

Brutal Cheese: I had known Gentle from AIM so we were already chatting even before the chat channel was created. Ahh..he was so helpful and sweet . At that time, Lele was the only channel ops and had limited knowledge of irc. He told Lele to download mirc and patiently taught her the basic irc commands.

Martin and Mark H.: my online buddies because of my keypals club and were chatters at my old #kci at dalnet.net. They are still around but aren't regular chatters anymore.

Lele [@] [//]
#protagonist:I went through my journal archive, and mid November, here is a snippet, "I got online at around midnight and got on iRC.. my new addiction. I have gotten to know a bunch of people pretty well in this chat. Some are soooo nice & sweet. In the chat, we started playing truth or dare. It got pretty funny. It's kinda lame & immature but I was good to play this old game... I had to scratch my ass on webcam on a dare. A few other dares included me professing my love for this guy Mark lolllllll... he actually believed it too. Lol.. but I didn't get to go to bed til 5am ;)"

Even back then you guys were ADDICTING! :P I remember first logging onto the java chat, and seeing Lauryn and other people I don't remember. The chat usually was only Lauryn, Gentle, Pei, and I. I never really liked going into random chatrooms and trying to make friends, but in #protagonist, because of the boards, there was already a common theme shared, which made it very cool. I was uber-hyper (and still am!) and after reading the old logs, realized how MAJORLY hyper and lame I was! Eeeep! How did you guys put up with me?!

Ally: Chjoey's friend, who talks even more than her! I was annoyed because it seemed like every line of out her and Chjoey's mouth were lyrics from Jeff Buckley/etc. But after awhile, I got used to it... (although occasionally in a bad mood, I'll still get annoyed :X)

Ash: I actually talked to him in another channel before #protagonist but never took notice of him much. I didn't even notice he was an oper until a week or more in #protagonist. I didn't think much of him actually. He came in a very bad time (WTC!).

Aspens: I thought he was a stalker of reverie, so my demeanor was rather rude to him... because I wanted him to leave. Phew.. good thing he didn't! When he finally did talk, it seemed like he was trying to impress us with his knowledge of computers. Actually, I thought the same of Kelvin too, but moreso, which turned me off.

Balthazar : Who is that guy who is always in our chat but never says a word?? Idler!!!! :P After awhile, my curiosity got ahold of me and I tried to get him to talk to me more. He revealed very little of himself - so I began to tease him that he was probably a blind woman (something along that lines).

Brit: I honestly don't remember my first impressions of her. I don't even recall when she started becoming a regular. She was just kinda always there. :X Her demeanor was always sweet, and now she's this sweet thing with a potty mouth! lol.

Chjoey : oh my god. This girl talks more than me. Is that possible?? All I knew was that she was tooscaredtotry's girlfriend, and she had a really pretty avatar. I wasn't sure if that was her or not though. After discovering that she and Thom were a couple in real life, I was impressed that the both of them are that close to share an online journal together and be in the same online social atmosphere.

ChrisH: Another cute Brit wanker. I recall trying to have him change his nick into "goodthoughts" but eh he didn't listen! He had a webcam also and I insisted he turn it on, and he did for awhile. I got to see his room, and his brown school uniform.

D-A-G: Does this guy ever talk about anything beyond sports??? He seemed rather obnoxious because he never really gave any regard to what people were talking about, but instead just went on blabbing sports blurbs/scores etc. Hehe also Lauryn and he fought a lot too which I thought used to be a lot more serious, but now I see that the two of them are like caged lions with each other :P. It's this love but fight like hellions kinda thing or something which is rather endearing.

Daynah : I talk very little to Daynah in the chat actually. Most of our conversations take place on AIM. I've always known of Daynah from the board, Dodo's board, etc but never really got to know her. It was only when Lauryn befriended Daynah, I got to know her better. I signed up at her boards, and slowly we got to know each other better. We have a similar background (us both being Vietnamese!) which made things spiffier. Also, Daynah is just really sweet and cute, and who the heck could NOT love her?!? She's one of those people where it's just hard to feel awkard around.

Evan: hottie Canadian with a great sense of humour.

Gentle: Really nice. He taught me how to set up mirc and I remember constantly bugging him to sleep. Before the chat, I remembered visiting his webpage and being UTTERLY scared because of the pictures of him in white makeup and welding a few knives. After conversing with him in the chatroom, I discovered that he wasn't all that bad. I had always known he was intelligent, gathering from what he wrote on his website but after the chat, I could see there was more to him than that harsh demeanor he likes to put off.

HECKLER : CESSY STALKER! He reveals very little about himself, including his AGE. Yeesh, the only thing I really know about him is that he is male...but overally he seemed harmless, funny, and intelligent - just overly crazed about Cessy.

Ian: a cute Brit youngin'. His nick was long, and weird. I don't remember much of my initial impressions. He and Gentle did have some kind of Hacker Jeopardy (involving other people.. that I don't remember)

JediGirl : I LOATHED this girl! Her views are complately 100% opposite of mine and everything she posted in the debates forum aggravated me! I was rather cold, rude, etc to her in the first few months of the chat, but then gradually, we all got to know each other better. =] Now my views have changed drastically. Oh, and she likes to pee a lot.

Kalmeo: a valley girl type who hated Americans (from her constant posts in the debates forum insulting Americans). That really bothered me for awhile.

Kig: I didn't realize he was from Thailand, thus English being his second language so my impressions was that he was er..(no offense!! I take it all back now!) really slow. From his pictures on the board, I thought he was cute -in that little boy way- because in each picture he always had on some silly slanted grin.

Lauryn: Initially I was a bit intimidated to chat with her because she was the protagonist! I had usually never talked with the webmasters of the sites I visited and thus was a big thing to actually interact with someone's site that I visited on a regular basis. But she was (and still is) very down to earth, and funny. Since the chat was a lot smaller in size back then, the small group of us chatted much more - the usual net gossip, tech help, etc. I remember my conversations with Lauryn about the other journals that we both read, about Casey, etc.

Lin : Another Canadian. She was rather quiet so I didn't really pay much attention to her at first. But she kept returning so I grew warmer to her. I tried to get her to convert to mirc. Still hasn't worked :P

Ling: Rather cute.

Manda: really sweet. Mellow. Her posts on the board were usually sweet and passive. I remember being infuriated at a post in the debates forum, and Manda and I supported each other through PM, which was cool. I knew I had a friend/supporter in my beliefs.

Martin: Uses "!" too much. Always sounds way too happy. Is he always that happy???? Like Tim, I also chatted with him here and there on aim, and yes he definately uses "!" a lot (or did.. I don't talk to him anymore).

Michel-v : I realized he was the creator of b2 and to be frank, I was nicer to him in my greetings than usual. We didn't really have much more contact until that whole bruhaha concerning cats which ended him being banned (while I was afk!). Afterwards, we were on more familiar ground. A very funny guy who fits in easily, adjusting to all the sick humor that was thrown around.

Pei : VAMPIRESS! I thought she never slept at all! I tried a million and one perverted jokes on her and she hasn't run away yet. Mwahhahah. I didn't really remember her from the board, so the chat was how I really got to know her. She introduced me to her journal, and I remember, after a few serious (somewhat deep!) conversations, she mentioned me in her journal and I was so touched. I didn't think I could have any kind of impact on someone so far away.

PhonaShinji-JB: Very quiet. I always tried to open him up more bc he seemed like a really sweet guy. (And he is!)

Thom: Tooscaredtotry from the board. After he joined the chat, and Chjoey came in, he sort of lost his identity. He became Chjoey's boyfriend (hehe probably because Chjoey's precense overshadowed him). He had no identity except for that. He was always really quiet, but occasionaly put in a funny quip. Gentle hated him because of the H in his name.

Tim: His posts infuriated me on the board but I didn't want to let that interfere with getting to know him. Really sheltered though. He never answered my question if a female orgasm was a sin. Despite our differences in religion, lifestyles/etc... I found him to be a very funny guy. We chatted both in the Protagonist chatroom and on AIM.

Timurake: Can't type properly lol. really funny. Into mullets quite a bit. When I found out he lived in Upstate NY, we developed a bond. He was having trouble with his regents (NY state exams) and I tried to help him here and there (although I don't think I was very successful gathering he eventually failed his chem exam).

Tito: He uses even more "!" than Martin. Is this a Californian thing? I thought it was really odd that Lauryn's uncle would be a frequenter in the chat. I always felt bad when I mentioned something perverted or cursed, but then as I found out, Tito is even worse LOL! He's way cool for an "adult-figure."

TN: I loved reading his posts on the board, because they reflected everything I usually wanted to say, but intelligent, and full of sass. I don't recall when he first joined the chat, but I recall conversations with him about his [ex?]-gf. He had my utmost respect. Now he's just an old wanker ;P

TuxMP : I knew him from another server, and brought him into #protagonist because he was just a bit too overwhelming to the other people there, and I felt that perhaps he needed to be around people more of his age who'd give him more of a chance. Sometimes he can be uber annoying, but that aside, I think he can be very sweet and generous. He seems misunderstood/misjudged a lot, me included.

Reverie: really talkative and hyper. I first knew of her from Hypens board, and noticed that her nick was "reverie" which was part of Pei's aim sn. Oh I was also attempting to be the last poster in every forum @ hyphens but reverie was ruining it so I went on icq and (jokingly) told her to stop posting! That was my initial contact with her. I think, at the insistence of pei, she joined #protagonist but didn't join up at the boards so I decided to pick her nose until she did. I guess I must've dug very well because she finally joined and is now this posting maniac! :P

Rina : Rina #2! I didn't know her at all when she first popped into the chat but I recognized her name because of rina#1. I believed she came around the time of the SV, but didn't get to join up... but either Ian or Rhett's SV fell out, and I asked Rina to fill in. Then she seemed to disappear for awhile... or didn't talk much because I don't really recall her presence. During the summer and now, she popped in a lot.

Xebular: Ian's friend, and according to Ian, he likes to screw sheeps. Computer geek. He and I had a lot of side conversation about finding the "right" woman. He seemed very sensitive, romantic, etc. He showed me his webpage which had a few poems he wrote which showed me that side of him.

Zain: nice funny guy who doesn't like it when no one is chatting with him. He could relate to my "ex" situation. I find it really amusing when he keeps asking for me, or pei/Lauryn. It seemed like he attached himself to us.

lin [@] [//]
Ian (then MrSaturdayNight): a real sweetie. He also seemed quite...normal, which was really unexpected considering the other conversations that i was reading and had read previously =)

Chjoey: one word: LOUD. kept 'yelling' and calling everyone 'fuckers'...

reverie: Wow. What a hyper little demon child. very chatty. it was, like, every other messages was hers!

Cessy: Britney Spears obsessed...i.e. weird. Teenybopper (because of the britney thing) but otherwise fairly quiet. oh, and i thought she was evil because of the midget sex thing.

Lele: friendly...but disturbing. very...what's the word?...says whatever comes to her mind. very psychotic and usually her comments were very random

pandora and gerbera: VERY disturbing. almost scared me out of here with the lesbian sex thing (along w/ reverie and lauryn)

brit: also quite scary. fucking people and giving lap dances. otherwise very friendly and funny.

rina: cute! i don't know why, but she seemed very...little. like she was 8.

Thom, TuxMP, Ash, and ChrisH: i would put things about them too but for some reason i can't really tell them apart.... i do remember being very freaked out cuz they kept talking about sex or something related.

pei and lauryn: i already read your blogs so i already had an idea of who you were.

Ling [@] [//]
let's start off with the Protagonist

Lauryn: She's a great person... the protagonist community wouldn't have exist without her... she brings us all together! I first met her thought the boards and it's she told me to join the chat. I'm glad i did too.

The Goddesses

Goddess Lele: Lele is a very fun person to be around with. She's very smart and everyone just love her... I think i first met her through the chat and i've love her as a friend ever since.

Goddess Pei: Pei is the coolest goddess/vampire/blogging monster i've ever seen! I don't remember how i met her but i know that after seeing her site, i have to give her a nice home in my domain. And then i've been chatting with her ever since coming to #protagonist.

4 Singaporean hotties

#1: Reverie: She's the infamous posting monster... I remember the first time we met is when she icqed be... I introduce her to the Protagonist and she has been one of the top poster and chatter ever since. She's very talkative, i think everyone will agree with me on that and she loves stuff pigs :)

#2: that's me...:P

#3: Cessy: My CessyPrue! She's a nice young lady who does great designs and loves astronomy ( like me! )...

#4: Pandora: Blissy is a really nice person... I think she's the last of the ReCeBLing to join the #protagonist...she loves to figure-skate and her journal is loved by all.

The lads

Kig: only one word... the-britney-lover... i love pig. :) oh, that's more than one word :P

Evan: a hot Canadian guy who once ( maybe more than once? ) flopped in front of his cam... too bad i missed it.. :P He has a nice domain too!

Gentle: the first i chat with him, i thought he's a really cool guy... he's can be a brutally honest person though....

Heckler: the guy who is madly in love with Cessy.... he seems to be scary at times...

MrSaturdayNight: Otherwise, known as Ian is a very nice guy.. i used to joke about him only coming to the chat on sat and if he did come on other days of the week, i'll ask him," i thought you're MrSaturday? " that seems to annoy him, heh.... He's a handsome & charming yet modest English guy with a sexy voice. ( i was forced into writing the last sentence by him )

Xebular: a very cool guy to chat with, with a very cool nick.

Balthazar: a wise guy with few words...

D-A-G: also known as Pete.. a really sporty guy...

Ash: one of the coolest, if not, the coolest guy i've every met online... never fails to make me laugh...

Aspens: Meng hon, everyone seems to like that name... coz they love to greet him with CAPS and bolds ...

Onyx [@] [//]
[Onyx] I liked you.
[Onyx] I hated Lele.
[Onyx] I loved Balthazar.
[Onyx] I hated Ian and Xebular.
[Onyx] I hated Chjoey and Thom.
* pei notes all the past tense.
[Onyx] lol yeah I ended up liking several of you.
[Onyx] And thinking several of you are dumbasses.
[Onyx] Because several of you are.

P.S.: "Interview" done in mIRC.

pandora [@] [//]
#protagonist was a real eye-opener for me, after some years of mindless chat in Galaxynet's Singaporean channels. I was a little hesitant to chat at first, 'cause I joined the boards not knowing a single person there and I thought chatting might be even more scary then just posting at the boards. As it turned out, it was cool, I stayed, and I'm still chatting til this day.

The crazy late-night (in my time zone, anyway) debates were fun. Significant mentions would be the Singlish debate, which included reverie and some others I can't remember right now, and some crazy argument with thefinman over religious harmony. That latter one was just so ingratiatingly ridiculous that reverie and I were still complaining about it when we met in person during ReCeBLing I.

We don't debate quite so much now; the chat now seems more Beep You/Reality Bytes than My State of the Empire Address. Which is cool; it's been fun and exciting watching the nature of #protagonist evolve over the months.

During the September 11th crisis, my first instinct was to get my ass into #protagonist and find out how everyone was and what they were feeling. Maybe it was my journalistic inquisitiveness that got me in there; more likely, it was the fact that Lele and others were in New York State... and I just wanted to know if everyone was okay.

There I was, just going to bed, and there everyone was, wide-awake and reacting to what had happened. I didn't sleep til pretty late that night because there was something going on somewhere else in the world... and everyone was there, talking about it and feeling it. And in a way, it was comforting to know that somewhere around the world, people are aware, people notice, people care.

Ok I think I went off on a really rambly tangent there. Hang on, I'm coming right back.

I'll always appreciate the 24-hour tech support function of #protagonist. Okay, maybe not round the clock per se, but it sure feels that way with Lele, reverie and Pei (the almighty goddess! *kowtow*) always willing to lend a hand with the techie side of things.

pei [@] [//]
#protagonist: A little too addictive to be legal. My bills skyrocketed after it hit off (and I was originally against the idea because I thought we should stick to the boards... look at me now, chatting instead of posting! Shame on me...). Hehe. It was the source of entertainment for the past year and also part of the main factor of my mental corruption. So what about the chatters? A lot of you are people I met from the boards, so that counts as a first impressions too. :) I'm going to put everything in alphabetical order so no one complains about priorities. ;P If your alias is somewhere in the end, that's your luck. Muahahahahaha.

P.S.: Err... I seem to have written a hell lot... skip if you like. I tried summarizing... *weak smile* I deleted off those who is not a regular (or at least a semi-regular) to the chatroom just to make the whole list shorter because I think I wrote up on about over 40 people. Eeps. Hehehe. Took me ages!

Ally: Chjo's friend who practically takes over the channel when she's around. Loud and talkative. I get scared of her a lot of times because she was crazily insane and goes around "fucking" every guy in the channel. Yesh, Pei get scared at stuff like these. Whenever she was around, I tend to lapse into an extended silence because I really didn't know what to say about whatever that happens in the channel.

Ash: I hardly noticed him when he was here first because when he joined, the whole chat was flooded with words and I was worried over Lele's situation. Some days later I noticed the nick HashyBaked but never knew who was that. The first thing I can recall that he said to me right after I joined the channel one day (and that my mIRC highlights along with a "ding!") is something about him sticking his finger into the pie. And he didn't know whether I was female or male then. ;P I found that really amusing for some reason.

aspens: I think maybe half the people in the channel initially thought he was Reverie's stalker. Almost every Singaporean guy who came into the channel was either someone Reverie knew or someone who knew Reverie. He didn't help us out either by being so silent most of the time and lurks in the background idling, and hardly answer questions when we asked him. He, however, was neither. I remember how we'd question him and the whole chatroom would be silent.

Balthazar: He's the local gargoyle who answers to the name "Balthazar". An idler most of the times. I used to keep on wondering why he was so quiet in the chatroom while others were chatting up a storm, and wonders if he's actually watching us chat or away. He rarely speaks up while in the chatroom, but when he does it normally a witty or thoughtful comment (or both!) of some sort. A lot of what he says is worth pondering about. That goes for his posts on the boards too.

brit: Brit has always struck me as cute and sweet at the same time. I don't really know when she first joined the chatroom though. It seemed like she had been there for quite some time when I first saw her around. I seem to hold on to the impression that she's "cute and sweet" all the time, so her occasional sarcastic, witty comments in the chatroom would left me in peals of laughter (after the initial surprise for a milisecond or two).

Cessy: Did I first met you from the H-Y-P-H-E-N-S.Net boards as well? If I did, then you're the crazy woman who runs around posting stuff right after Reverie has posted, and vice versa. You really need to drop by the chat more. I don't even remember any of our conversations anymore except for the few occasional AIM ones, let alone how I first met you. Bah! The only thing I did remember was being taken aback by your site when I first saw it... it was (and still is) gorgeous!

ChrisH: Another additional Chris to the Chrisses of Protagonist from the UK. Talkative, hyperactive, and never could keep a site up for more than two weeks. He's also amazingly accident-prone. A lot of the times, I tell him to stop self-mutilating himself by accident, avoid sharp objects, and to stop exploding the toasters and computers appliances (he broke his webcam!) and whatever else electrical. Knives are not meant to be in the toaster, Chris. Remember that.

Chjo: She talks a hell lot that talkative doesn't even begin to describe it. Are there any other words to? When she first came, her words and typing are so jumbled up with her tendancy to "lkashdflkjhalskdfjasdf" that I don't really know how to make it out. Hehe. But eventually I got used to that and it started to become, like everything else in the Protagonist Community, quite funny. Frighteningly hyperactive to those who don't know her, but that hyperness grows on you.

D-A-G: A pretty great guy who shares an slightly evil edge when it comes to sense of humor. Muahahahahaha. Athletic and is a little too obsessed with sports (he talks about them all the time) and Australia (very patriotic, eh?). Occasionally gives off this impression that he seems to hate everything about America (maybe he does), except for maybe a few people selected who are (happened to be?) living on that continent.

Daynah: My first chat with her was on AIM on my virus problem (that turned out to be not mine, but that's a long story) because Lauryn was talking to her about it while I was talking to Lauryn about it. After a while, we started talking quite some and discovered our love for a particular electric rodent (which triggered some Pikachized-conversations). She's really cute in a upbeat, cheerful way. :) She's also the one who brought the "chu" trend into the chatroom!

E: Ah, the Penguin Queen who cannot resist the temptation to "ding!" me in the chat. She was also another person who intimidated me before I got talking to her (because I visited her weblog consistantly?). She was introduced to me by the Anti-Penguin (Lele). I got to know of her first through some snippets of conversations rather than directly talking to her, and somehow along the way I got chatting with her through AIM and then the chatroom. She's just an absolute darling. :D

HECKLER: I thought he was pretty scary the way he kept obsessing about Cessy (but his obsession occasionally becomes quite a joke amongst us Protagonists). He's also mysterious up to the point where he wouldn't reveal anything personal about himself, which makes the lot of us all the more paranoid in a way. But one chat in PM kind of changed my opinions about him a little. Okay dude, I suppose. Though that doesn't mean I know him all that well.

Ian: His longtime nick (MrSaturdayNight) got to me for some reason. I think I started out being totally prejudiced because of that, and because of the fact that he seemed to attempt to suck up to people a lot, and occasionally he would start filling (flooding?) the chatroom with a tonful of lyrics of songs that he was listening to or remembering or that suit the moment. After a while though, it all became really funny. I don't know when that started. Haha.

JediGirl: My first impression of her was that she was one stubborn Catholic Christian. Her arguments brought much life to the debates and issues forum. I guess I was too busy arguing against her points to really get to know her as a person then. But when she started reading up on the topics of arguments and bothering to do research on them, I was amazed and started to respect her a lot for just that. Right now? She rules.

Jordan: The first thing I remember about him was something Lauryn said about whether he was the Jman she knew from KCI. Before that I didn't really take much notice of the nick (but after that, his identity was "Lauryn's friend"). The first time I talked to him personally was when Lele was... well, mad at me. Or upset with me. Struck me as the quiet (because he does not talk much in the chat?), but rather inquisitive type. I talk to him a lot more now, and he's fun.

Kalmeo: I first met her at the boards, and I liked her nickname because it sounded... I don't know, sweet? Cool? What? But otherwise I can't really say I remember much from there. From the chat, I've heard her talk about school, guys, crushes, and stuff she doesn't like about herself. But I don't really know anything about herself (other than the things mentioned above), I suppose. Her dropbys the channel is only occasionally. Either that, or I've been in there too much.

Kig: Ah. He's the one who I an e-engaged to by the local e-cupid, Lele. Or did I e-disengaged him already? I remember threatening to do that in the past. Hehe. My first impression of him was when he barely knew how to write in English then, but since I had a prewarning from somewhere (Lauryn?) that he's still learning English, he was tolerable. :P I did some explaining on some boards (I forgot) about what he meant when a post is all distorted. He has come a long way though!

lauryn: I followed Lauryn's journal for a long, long time (I think back in early 1998) before I actually joined her boards in August 2000. Even then I was a tentative lurker because I was simply not used to making any sort of contact with webmasters or webmistresses whom I admire. In some ways she intimidates me with her intelligence, talent, and ability, and despite the journal there was always a veil of mystery. After the chat started, I got to know her better. :)

Lele: We were both there when the channel first started (mainly because we were also both there at the boards before it did). I was a little intimidated by her then because she was very friendly and very corrupted (I was an innocent girl), but it got a little better afterwards when we discovered some common grounds. She's also my partner-in-crime in a lot of things regardless if they are evil or not, especially after we were both made co-admins at the boards.

lin: I think one of the first (or first few) questions she asked me was whether I was Pei from http://goddess.h-y-p-h-e-n-s.net. I was really surprised that someone would know me from my site. Hehehe. From her occasional dropping by the chatroom, she seems to be a nice, enthusiatic, but somewhat shy girl. But then again, I might've been a timid rabbit myself when I was new... who knows? Will the Protagonists infect her with the talkative, hyperactive bug?

Ling: Ah, my Lingaroo. I don't remember how I first knew her, but her domain (which she posted in the ads forum) had a rather unique name. She offered my site hosting when I was mucking around from freeserver to freeserver, and I accepted her offer because I sorta knew her by then (not super-close, but at least I knew her). I didn't want another hostess-hostee relationship where we don't even contact each other. I find her a really great person now, and a superb artist. :D

Martin: He's Marty, Lauryn's friend whom she mentions in her journal quite a lot. On first impression, he was an uptight Catholic. On second impression when he joined the chat, he was very fun to chat with. On third impression, he was an uptight Catholic that I simply could not stand for another minute. On fourth impression, he was very fun to chat with again. By the time I was about to make a fifth impression, he's no longer in the chat. Go figure.

michel_v: When he dropped by the chat, the nick was very familiar but I could not recall ever talking to him before. Then it hit me that he was the author of B2, some blogging device using PHP and MySQL that Daynah told Kig about that I saw in the comments and visited the site. Hehehe. So I think one of the first things I asked him was whether he was that Michel V. Answer is positive. Heh. Quite a nice guy. Had a lot of fun with the Malay/Indonesian language.

Mijaan: He was fun, talkative, and another one of those hyper-ish people. I think on several occasions I got a little scared of him because of some much-too-daring things he did, but that's what made him even more significant to my memory, I guess. Nevertheless, he still seems safe enough to chat with in the chatroom and make daily visits to his weblog. As long as I make sure not to watch his cam... ;P

Oliver: A lurker in the chat? What? We call him Oliber. He doesn't talk much. Other than occasionally petting or poking or stroking someone, which I find rather amusing. ;P *strokes Oliber*

Onyx: My first impression of him was that he was rather harsh in the way he worded his arguments in a debate on the boards, and I asked him something about souls and out-of-body experiences. He PM'ed me then, and explained thoroughly to me some things that he believed in. I was pretty surprised that he bothered to do that, and it made my impression upon him improved a lot. I got to know him better through the chatroom, and he turned out to be a really great guy. :)

pandora: Don't really remember when I first met her, but I remember getting hooked to her journal. I was surprised to know that she was only 17 (going on 18), half a year older than yours truly yet seemingly so much more world-wise and patient and understanding than me. She just seems so... mature, I guess. Heh. I think she tend to give really good advices on situations, and probably someone who tries to solve differences by finding something to agree upon.

psyche: Reverie's schoolmate. I thought she was older than she really is (actually, I thought she was Reverie's classmate). Hehe. She sounded pretty mature. Shocking to find out that she is actually a year younger than Reverie. But very, very cute in her Singaporean Protagonist Outing pictures. Her first big impression upon me was when she emailed me with constructive comments about my site though; before that she was just Reverie's schoolmate who sounded mature. Hehe.

phona: Always seemed to me like someone bubbly and bouncy whenever she graces the channel with her appearance. Phona occasionally acts and plays around like a little child... so cute! Hehe. Normally she brings a little sunshine into the channel. :D

reverie: I first noticed her at H-Y-P-H-E-N-S.Net Boards because of her nick "reverie" was half-similiar to my AIM SN then ("crystalreverie"). I commented on this, and then the next day I got an ICQ message from her and we started chatting. While I'm normally not chatty with complete strangers, she was one talkative girl and had endless topics to discuss about, and we ended up talking up till 3AM. She joined the chatroom after much persuasion, and then the boards.

rina: Ah, my Rinabee! Well, my first impression of her was from her site. Didn't know her well then other than that she's a Protagonist from the boards. Her site was really pretty (and surprisingly unhosted!), so I blogged about it. And then the next thing I know is that Ling found her site through my blog, liked her site, and offered her hosting! Talk about happy endings, hehe. She's really cute and upbeat most of the times. :D

Shinji-JB: Really quiet and shy most of the times, but a nice guy nonetheless. :) Seems sweet. Or perhaps gentlemanly was more of the word. And since he doesn't say much in the chat, I don't know much about him. Talk more! ;P

Thom: He's Chjo's boyfriend who brought her into the Protagonist Community (I distinctly remember that, I think!). A PHP geek. ;P Well, heck, a computer geek for that matter. Doesn't chat that much in the channel for me to know anything else about him, really. Hehe. His posts on the boards, however, does reflect a thoughtful, intelligent person under the quiet demeanor (or maybe this is just because compared to the usual craziness in the chat triggered by Chjo).

Tim: I never thought I'd find someone even more sheltered and innocent the me when I first went into the chatroom, but hey hey, I have been proven wrong. If anything, Tim was just that: innocent and sheltered. Terribly, if I may add. And completely clueless about the world other than what he had been told all his life, which bases itself a lot around Catholicism. Though with all that said, he seemed like a good enough kid.

Timurake: Our ever cuddly Roary! :D At first I thought he was a crazy anime freak because through his introduction at the boards, Lauryn's blog at BLOGGED, and his domain, it was all about animes. And I thought I wouldn't have anything to say to him at all. Hehe. But when he joined the chatroom and everyone started chatting, he turned out really funny and fun, with a lot of hilarious stuff to tell.

TN: A Chris from the UK (Chris #1?). Intelligent, sarcastic, witty, and cute. If someone can be all that at once, it's POOCH!E. And yes, that was my first impression of him back when he was ChrisX on the old forums (the nickname came later though). I had a lot of fun chatting to him, and learnt quite a lot about different views and opinions from him through his posts on the boards (namely the debates forums back when it was crazily filling up with posts).

TuxMP: I never see him talking much in the chatroom when he first joined, just another nick to the namelist. I gathered Lele knew him from another channel/server she visited. The word "Tux" always reminded me of the Linux penguin (right?), and thus I thought he was another one of those Linux people whom I'd have nothing to say to... again. Hehehe. But he turned out really nice too. Oh, and he made me a couple of "Got Pei?" pictures during the "Got Milk?" phase. :D

xebular: Another Chris from the UK, Ian's friend. He was really nice to me back when he used to frequent the chatroom a lot (earlier in the year), but lately has been... not to frequent. So yeah, I don't see him around much anymore. He was once my huggle-buddy, if I'm not mistaken. :) The starter of the "roo" trend in the chat when he started calling everyone with a "roo" behind their nicknames (i.e. "Lingaroo" or "kigaroo").

Zain: When I first saw him in the channel, he was asking for some help with his webcam and Webcam32. I flicked in and out of the window because I was busy doing something else, but each time I checked back, he was demanding for some sort of attention about his webcam situation. It irked me a little, but I suppose I did not really reprimand him about it. Later on after a couple of non-webcam-related chats, he was pretty all right. The CAPS still irritated me though.

#protagonist : I guess I kinda remember there being a large-ish, but almost "cliqued" group... chatty and hard to break into the conversation? (I know, very vague...) I guess I must've just jumped in and got a little silly, because that's the easiest way to get noticed :P I don't think it took very long to become a regular and "part of the group". phona like chat. chat fun :P...... (I think that's all, its all very unclear)

psyche [@] [//]
#protagonist: I felt strange when I joined the chat. It was so uniquely different from the GalaxyNet channels where everyone was silent and there was always strange people PM'ing you. The protagonists are a fun-loving bunch of people and a very unique community of people from all over the world. Credit goes to reverie who was always bugging me to join her. And yes, I shall be forever guilty because I only made a few posts at the boards as I couldn't find much time to check the boards often.

Ash: He's cute in his actions. Quite outgoing although a bit on the sad side. Wise in a way too. Gee. I just realised I have a lot of impressions about him.

Aspens: Didn't know where the hell did he come from, suddenly appearing in the #protagonist and making himself the most called-for guy on the block. Despite joining the community later than me, he managed to scrape up more posts and lines than me. And I still can't believe how I missed him coming in. Damn. But anyway, he's my host and I must be nice to him... *snicker*

Cessy: A pretty and smart woman. She's always designing these great-looking websites and a Mac-user. Cessy is nice although a bit blur sometimes. But that doesn't make her any less a nice fellow protagonist and a Singaporean hottie!

Chjoey: I unanimously agree that she is indeed a full-fledged siao woman. w00t! Keep on rocking!

Daynah: Have not personally talked to her, but she seems pretty nice when she talks on the main and from her journal & blog. Oh, and Daynahchu is so cute!

Kig: Britney-loving Thai piggy! a.k.a. whore :)

Lauryn: I just know she's a web goddess, pretty, smart and has a nice disposition. She's also the owner of the-protagonist.net. She's impressive, too!

Lele: She has so much to say that I don't know what to say about her. She's a great whore to chat with. And I shall always remember her by "YOUR MOM".

Ling: The sweet lil' astronomer & artist. Though I didn't tell her this, but she's a really avid stars and space lover. I used to be fascinated with astronomy too, but limitations eventually led me to minimise on the hobby. I admire Ling because she's so talented. Everyone loves her despite dropping by less often the chatroom than the other regulars. Rock on, baby!

ChrisH and Ian: I remember them because they greet me and ask how I am. And I remember greeting them back. :)

Reverie: Known her for three years. Because I first met her through her website three years ago, I don't really have any first impressions of her(not that I really remember either). But now.... hehe.. it's amazing how she became my schoolmate.

Rina: She's outgoing and very friendly despite the few times I managed to see her in the chatroom though I didn't speak then. Ehh.

Pandora: She's quite wise and is quite the mediator in the chatroom. But that doesn't make her any less a true-blue protagonist and celebrated chatter in the chatroom. She is a very sweet person. And she makes great websites too.

Pei: The goddess pie and her kerfuffleness. She's a really nice person. Despite sometimes being in a mood and not chatting, she still managed to top reverie and is the #2 chat monster and #1 blogging monster. I think it'll be very interesting if I am able to meet her in person. Pei is amazing and she rules!

TuxMP: To this day, I have not figured out who or what he is.

reverie [@] [//]
#protagonist: I loved the chat the moment I stepped in. That was the beginning of the year when I wasn't even part of The Protagonist Boards. I must say the people were very warm and welcoming. Heh. So here's a few first impressions of some people in the chat.

Lele: Crazy woman. An absolutely insane whore who considers "whore" as a compliment. She goes to extremes when she wants something. Like picking my nose (eww) to get me to join The Protagonist Boards.

Lauryn: The Geek Goddess. Well, at least her nick was geekgoddess. Pretty friendly, considering she didn't know me at first. Heh. She's a darling because she offered to host my journal.

Pei: Pei the vampy. She never sleeps. The first time I chatted with her over ICQ, we talked till over 3AM. After that, I conceded defeat and retired for my beauty sleep. She's a sweetie though.

Cessy: She's an old meanie who pinches my cheeks. I can't believe she dished out those compliments for my site 3 years ago and said I stole her Platinum Star Award. Mean indeed.

Kig: Kiggywhore likes to >:O people. Period.

Ling: She's a sweetie. I wouldn't have known so many people from Protag if not for her. I love her. ;P

Mijaan: Was Evan previously. Boiling hot, likes to flop.

Pandora: Previously blissy(fied). Nice woman to chat with. Is now my wife. ;P Heh.

Aspens: He was the lurker. He never talked much. And I ignored him too. LOL.

Chjo: Well, I didn't name her the siao woman for nothing. That's her favourite word. Very keen on learning Chinese. :)

MrSaturdayNight: He proposed to me but wouldn't give me a diamond ring and a honeymoon to Paris and gave me instead one of those candy rings and a trip to McDonald's (not realising that I HATE McDonald's), so I dumped him.

rina [@] [//]
#protagonist: well, what can i say. the first time i came into the channel, i was using the java chat. then i switched over to mIRC and i've been visiting often since then. i thought that #protagonist was pretty cool, since there were always people in the channel to talk to. i guess i started chatting more regularly only in the past 3 months or so. everyone in #protagonist is very interesting, just like the conversations :)

lele: she was the first one i talked to in the chatroom. i used to call her ambrosiana back then, but i got lazy (just kidding) and started calling her lele like everyone else. my first impression of lele was that she is a very nice person. i've gotten to know her better, and she is one cool chick. one more thing.. YOUR MOM!

pei: pei was one of the first few i have talked to in this chatroom. she was very nice, and seemed to get along with everyone very well. i got to know her more when she found my site, and because of her, i got hosted by ling :) she always helps me with my cgi-ing problems, even though i may be annoying her, she always tries to help me! thanks for everything pie!

lauryn: i don't get to chat much with lauryn since we're in different timezones, but lauryn is one cool girl. she managed to get us all together and form an online community :) whenever we talked, it was about stuff in the philippines, since i used to live there. lauryn, you rock!

chjoey: chjoey rocks! chjoey is really funny and talented! i started talking to her a few months ago and she always entertains the room :) i luff the chjoey!

reverie: samantha was very nice the firt time i talked to her. she was the one who told me all about the protagonist glossary :)

ian: ian is a nice guy. he's always there to greet the people when they join the channel. he talks to me when nobody else is around.

daynah: daynah is very sweet. she is very nice and she always asks people how they are. she's so caring and kind!

timurake/jon: the one with the mulletude! jon is funny and he is such a nice guy. i remember those times when he would always say "booyah!" so... BOOYAH JON!

ash: ash is cool. i don't talk to him much, but he is very funny, especially that time when he was drunk! lol. don't worry, i won't send the chat log to you, as you requested :)

poochie: one cool pup! he made me crack up when we all recorded something for pie's birthday! :)

brit: one cool canadian! i don't live too far from her, and we always seem to chat while a movie's on (like when we were all watching selena on TBS), and that time that she kept on orgasming because chris kattan was on SNL. she's hilarious and very nice.

lin: lin is a very sweet girl. my first impression of her was that she was very nice.

kig: i only get to chat with him rarely since he's always sleeping, hehe ;P but kiggay is funnay!

aspens: MENG HON! aspens is very nice and he is one cool dude :)

ok, i know i may be forgetting to write about some people, but i know that everyone is very nice and funny. you've all provided many hours of fun in this channel. all i know is that you've all made lasting first impressions to me, and that all of them are positive impressions. i luff you all, cuz you all rule! *huggles everyone*

Stokley [@] [//]
#protagonist: I guess I found the chat overwhelming at first hence why I never talked.

TN [@] [//]
#protagonist: I thought "ooo, a chat! now I can talk to people." cause I was too shy to talk to anyone who didn't message me first on aim. it was handy. :)

Lele: mysterious asian girl, buwahahaha.

Gentle: scary guy
